The Lenca women’s enterprise “Floricultura el clavel” in Chiligatoro, Honduras has been using its solar “sunlight pump” since 2020, installed by the PRO-LENCA project implemented by iDE Honduras.
Thanks to this innovative technology, they no longer use their gasoline-powered motor pump, which used to cost them US$50 per month in gasoline and oil, in addition to the inconvenience of transporting this heavy machinery twice a week. You can check their former gasoline pump in this video: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/_kmM751CAok
Now, the sunlight pump powered directly by a single 400 watt solar panel sends 16,000 liters (on a sunny day, 7,000 liters on a cloudy day) to the 23 m3 water reservoir located 22 meters above sea level and 160 meters away.
By simply opening the valves located in the greenhouses, the women can take advantage of gravity to push the water through several filters to remove the last particles, and drip irrigate their crops (strawberries, flowers, etc.) with good quality water.
