Our partner Ignite Energy Access has chosen to offer ennos surface solar pumps to Rwandan farmers rather than submersible solar pumps, for a variety of reasons.
1️⃣ Good match for Rwanda’s water sources 🌅
Rwanda has many:
🔹Rivers and streams
🔹Marshlands
🔹Small lakes and valley dams
Surface solar pumps are easier to install with these open and shallow water sources, unlike submersible pumps that are designed for deep boreholes.
2️⃣ Easy maintenance and repair 🛠️
Because the pump stays above ground, it is easier to inspect, so repairs are simpler and maintenance costs are lower.
This is important in rural areas where technical services may be limited.
3️⃣ Better protection against thieves 🔐
Because the pump and panel are mounted on a trolley with flexible hoses, it is easier for the farmer to safely store the solar pumping system at home after an irrigation day, unlike submersible pumps which can be stolen if they remain in a well overnight.
